Friends of High View - the High View PTA

In September 2016, the High View parent-teacher association (PTA) became the Friends of High View (FOHV) as well as becoming a registered charity. All parents and teachers are automatically part of the Friends group.

Friends of High View Roles

Katie Medwell Bates and Zoe Stern - Co-Chairs and Trustees

Dan Stern - Treasurer and Trustee

Charlotta Adolfson - Secretary

Nadia Abdalla - EAL Parent Engagement

The Friends group aims to:

  • Improve communications between the school and parents, by providing useful workshops and a friendly environment for parents to ask questions about the school, lessons and teaching.
  • Provide a way for parents to get more involved with the school and to meet teachers and other parents.
  • Raise money to help the school provide more resources and opportunities for all children in the school.

Every two weeks, on a Wednesday morning, there is a parent-teacher coffee morning. Each one covers a different topic and is a great way to find out more about what's going on at school, how you can help your child to learn and to meet other parents.

In recent years the parent-teacher association has raised funds which have helped pay for playground improvements, the new school library, and dictionaries for each child who left High View for secondary school.

To raise these funds, we organise several well-attended events each year. These include:

  • International Evening, held each October, celebrating the diversity represented in our school.
  • The Winter Ball, each December.
  • The Summer Fete, each June/July.

Other events, like movie nights for children, are held periodically.

These events are only possible thanks to time volunteered by parents like you.

Each class at school also has a parent class representative. These reps help to get messages to parents, encourage volunteers and act as a channel for parent questions to class teachers.

The Friends of High View will coordinate a parent meeting with Mrs Roberts at least once every term.

To work well, the Friends of High View needs people like you to get involved. We are always looking for enthusiastic and committed parents to help out at events and to form part of the committee. There are lots of ways you can help, whether you have a lot of time to spare or just a little and even if you are not always available during school hours.

If you are interested in supporting us, we would like to hear from you.

Please contact friendsofhighview@gmail.com to express interest, or come along to a coffee morning to find out more.

Please join the 'Friends of High View Primary School' Facebook page to get all the latest news, events and links to offers and discounts.

Examples of ways parents can support the school include:

  • Attending coffee mornings, asking questions and reporting back to other parents who may not be able to attend.
  • Volunteering to help organise school fundraising events, or helping out for a couple of hours at an event.
  • Linking us up with local businesses or volunteer groups who may be interested in supporting a local school financially or by providing volunteers or prizes for events.
  • Volunteering as a parent-classroom helper, listening to children read or accompanying school trips.
  • Baking cakes for cake sales or donating raffle prizes.
  • Use the EasyFundraising app whenever you shop online. Everything you buy turns into a donation to the school and it costs you nothing! Find out more: www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/friendsofhighview

You can also support us by helping your children with their homework and learning, and discussing issues with your child's class teacher at the earliest opportunity.

Thank you to all those parents who support the school.
